Sometimes when you destroy the wooden crates a snake will jump out and bite you. If you keep slashing with your knife when the box breaks you can kill the snake and receive a healing egg.

Ammo Tip
If you do not have the hand gun and you find bullets for it, collect them anyway and sell them to the merchant later, and to waste less ammo shoot in the leg and use the knife or if you are prompted by the green button the duplex move.
